Wheels for September 23
by Julie Ontiveros

"Great Expectations" were shared by our own Bill Summerhill, head of Ascension Academy. Bill, an ordained United Methodist clergyman and Ph.D., came to Ascension in July, 2008. Ascension Academy provides its students with an exemplary college preparatory education in a faith-affirming environment. The school helps develop in its students those intellectual, ethical and interpersonal qualities that support a life of intellectual growth, civic leadership and community service. Developing the minds, spirits and bodies of students in grades 6-12, Ascension Academy inspires young people to embrace the school's motto, Veritas et Virtus, as they prepare for lives that are both successful and significant. (from http://www.ascensionacademy.org) They have a 5-to-1 student/teacher ratio, currently boast 136 enrolled students and have had ten graduating classes. Thanks, Bill, for informing us about this asset to our community!

Bill Archinal gave a mini-classification talk, catching us up on what he's been doing since leaving Amarillo for San Antonio. He pledges that he is back home here to stay. Bill is working with Rushing Oil & Gas Consultants. He describes his job as helping people find what belongs to them. Welcome back, Bill.

Our appreciation to Lane Boyd for another interesting program.

A very Happy Birthday to Bob Dunstan as he turns 90 on September 29th! Please continue to keep Ed Fancher in your thoughts and prayers as he is in rehab in Beaumont. He is reportedly doing well following his accident.

A special drawing for Rigaletto tickets (thanks, David O'Dell) gained Gina Rodriguez a nice evening on the town.

Lucky George Cason drew the ticket for the Rotary Foundation pot, but grabbed the 8 of hearts. Jeff Lester won the Edes beef jerky with 2 winning tickets (since he didn't hear the first number in time). The Foundation pot is now more than $500.

And thanks this week to go to: Kristen Plumley, Amarillo Opera, who gave a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem; Melvin Edes, invocation; John Boyce, introduction of guests and visiting Rotarians; Dale Bippus and Bill Archinal, greeters; Dorothy Puckett, ticket sales.
